Your weekly trip through mystical musical realms guided by Zakia. In this episode, Zakia takes inspiration from her special guest, Shabaka, pulling out jazzy selections filled with the soul-enriching sounds of saxophones and flutes. There’s triumphant spiritual jazz from Ira Sullivan, rousing sounds from Soweto’s Batsumi, a Bantu lullaby from Francis Bebey, flutes from Martinique and a live recording of Nina Simone from 1969. Plus new music from Asher Gamedze, Momoko Gill, Brahja and Owelu Dreamhouse.

Also, we hear from jazz multi-instrumentalist, composer and bandleader Shabaka. We dive into his world to hear all about his instrumental journey, his dreams, and his new album Of The Earth. He also shares one of the albums he always returns to, from South African musician Mantombi Matotiyana.
